I was lucky enough to fly with Graeme and Scotair recently and had a wonderful morning. He was a first class pilot throughout the flight and I was surprised just how much control of the balloon he had.

Hot Air Balloons and Thermal Airships make great TV pieces and over the years we have made countless appearances, not only in the UK but also overseas. Below are just a few of the many clips we have in the archives. They clearly show that as well as being great to watch in the flesh they are also great to watch on screen also.
Lorraine Kelly -
We were asked if we could possibly fly Lorraine Kelly for her morning TV Show. How could we say no to oor LK? We took off from a field at the side of her house in Perthshire and all turned out very very well.
The Hour -
The Hour is a Magazine shown weekdays at 5pm. Val & Pat were regulars on this show doing weird and wonderful things. When I suggested they come flying it was snapped up and Robert Wiseman Dairies was the balloon to use.
Fresh N Lo Hopper
For many balloonists the ultimate flying machine is known as a Hopper. This is the

The Mole for Dutch TV -
The Mole is a show from Endemol and was shown around the world. Scotair were contacted by the Dutch Production Team and asked to come up with a challenge for the show.
It’s a complicated challenge but basically someone from the group of contestants had to touch the basket within 15 minutes of the balloon landing. There was a lot of very fast driving whilst the balloon was flying quickly across the countryside. They didn’t succeed!!

Crossing the English Channel
On the 7th April 2011 49 Hot air balloons left Lydden Hill race circuit, Kent, and flew across the English Channel crossing Calais and landing in the countryside to the south. A new world record was set for the most Hot Air Balloons over the English Channel at any one time.
Airship Flight -
In 2008 Graeme was sent over to Pianfei in Northern Italy to undertake the training to fly the AS105GD Thermal Airship. The airship is the most technically advanced thermal airship on the market, having been developed initially in the UK at Thunder & Colt Balloons, Oswestry. Gefa Flug in Germany have taken this design and with access to a wind tunnel and development funding, made the ultimate aerial marketing tool.

Tour of the Gondola
Airship pilot and friend Crispin Williams takes you on a tour of a thermal airship gondola. This Gondola is used with the Greenpeace Airship which has been used recently to fly over specific targets with accuracy.
Please click the links here to view this airship in action.
The visually stunning Gefa Flug Type AS 105 GD thermal airship. We are pretty much all familiar with the Goodyear and Fuji Airships that have graced the skies for many years. There are two main differences and they are lift and costs. Theses Airships/Dirigibles use Helium and Hydrogen for lift which is prohibitively expensive but the Thermal Airship uses Hot Air the same as a balloon, a clean and cheap fuel.
