In April of 2008 Scotair took an order for a Thermal Airship which will start flying passengers from early August.
A Thermal Airship looks like any other Airship with the main difference being its source of lift. Like our Hot Air Balloons we have burners inside our pressurised envelope to heat the air and give us lift. We also have a a powerful Rotax Engine for our forward motion and a huge rudder to give us steerage.
In our Gondola we have four comfortable leather seats with 4 point harnesses to hold the passengers in place. Up front, unlike a balloon is an instrument console full of buttons and gauges to monitor all our systems. The Gondola also carries full Radio and Transponder systems to enable us to transit Controlled Airspace.
Scotair Balloons are the first company in the UK to have such an aircraft on their operating licence and thus can sell flights to the public. This is such a unique form of transport and spaces will be limited.
We have a range of options for flights and all will be on a call out system. This simply means flights will be called when we have suitable weather and we will send out a blanket email and it will be first come first served.
Location wise we are literally spoilt for choice because we can steer ourselves.

What happens when you come for your flight?
You will be met by your Pilot and his 4 crew, who will show you around the Airship and run through getting in and out and emergency procedures. We will do at least two runs per morning and evening with up to 3 passengers at anyone time. The flights will last for approximately 30 minutes unless your option is Glasgow or Edinburgh where the flight will be 1 hour or so.
After you have flown the crew or Pilot will serve you a Glass of Champagne and present you with your Flight Certificate. There will be a range of exclusive Airship Merchandise should you want a souvenir of your trip.
To Book a flight in the Airship please contact us initially using this contact form.
